Norbert Wagenbrett
Norbert Wagenbrett
In Front of the Masks
07/05 — 27/09/2020
For 37 years now the Leipzig painter Norbert Wagenbrett (*1954) has been investigating different ways of portraying people. For him, a portrait is more than the reproduction of a person, it is the visualisation of that person’s hidden self, rendered visible through the medium of painting. The roots of his hyper-realistic painting lie in the socially critical, exact search for truth in the New Objectivity movement and are influenced by his career: after an apprenticeship as an offset retoucher Wagenbrett studied at the HGB under Arno Rink, Wolfgang Peuker, Volker Stelzmann and Sighard Gille. The retrospective at the MdbK unites nearly 50 portraits from all of his creative phases and is also the first institutional exhibition in his home city.
The German language catalogue of the exhibition is available for 14 € at the museums pay desk.
