Cihan Çakmak (*1993) completed her master’s studies with Tina Bara at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig in 2023. At the invitation of the MdbK, the artist has, in her most recent work, engaged with the presentation of the museum’s collection. In her photographs, she explores questions of physicality and pictorial representation in the tension between showing and concealing, objectivity and abstraction.

Tenseness

The works in her series Tenseness will shape the outer image of the MdbK in the coming months. Three photographs have been selected to serve as large-format banners above the entrances to the museum. Two others will, in the form of artistic interventions, enter into dialogue with the permanent exhibition.

A limited-edition portfolio with all five motifs from the series will be published to coincide with the presentation.

Measurements banners: 432 x 660cm / UV printing on DicoFlex M350 Mesh
Measurements interventions: 90 x 70cm
